In spite of the fact that the state health system in Montenegro is free of charge, an increasing number of people opt for private / voluntary health insurance.
By concluding a contract for a private / voluntary insurance policy, you get a health care insurance policy for private clinics throughout Montenegro. The policy can be used in the following way – first you call the Call centre of the insurance company whose policy you have, after which the agent from the Call centre will refer you to a specific clinic to undergo specific examination based on your real needs at a given moment.
Insurance companies that offer this type of insurance in Montenegro, with different restrictions, are listed as follows:
- Lovćen insurance
- Uniqa insurance
- Sava insurance
- Generali insurance
Basically, health insurance packages in Montenegro refer to outpatient and inpatient treatments. Outpatient treatment refers to health care received up to the level of a hospital treatment, that is, to the moment of staying in hospital. On the other hand, inpatient treatmentis a more advanced package that includes both inpatient and outpatient treatment.
The standard package of outpatient treatment usually includes the following: examination by a general practitioner, examination by a specialist, laboratory tests, diagnostic analyses (x-ray, scanner, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, etc.) and other examinations. In addition to the basic coverage, it is possible to conclude a contract foradditional coverage, such as: general medical examination performed annually, eye examination, dental services, physiotherapy, childbirth, and the like.
Policies of this type of insurance usually imply a waiting period (period of invalidity) of 2 months for the first contract, while the waiting period for pregnancy lasts for 9 months.
Minimum packages vary from the insurance premium amounting to €1,000 to the insurance premium amounting to €10,000. In some cases, insurance premium amounts significantly over €10,000, however, in such cases insurance premium is defined by a special contract. Special contracts of this kind are not included in standard offers of insurance companies. For better understanding, the sum insured is the amount you can count on when using a private/voluntary health insurance policy.
The average price for this type of insurance in terms of a basic package (for outpatient treatment insurance premium amounts to €1,000) is around €18 per person per month (for person under the age of 40).
Please note that previously treated conditions which have been entered into a person’s medical records, are not payable according to this policy.
